That's the weakest back-pedalling I've ever seen. It doesn't even make sense.
"Value" in GW is measured in gold, that's how they want it, that's how they designed the game. The reason many deleted their multiple minipigs, or gave them to people who could not attend the finale, was bacause they took up storage space and had virtually no value - just a plat or two - and the only "value" ANet increased by making minipigs rarer is their value in gold.
I take this as confirmation that ANet did indeed act on the behalf of pals with storages filled with minipigs, and that they are now unwilling to accept responsibility for intervening in the economy to make those hoarders very, very, rich.

So please accept my apologies if you thought I was talking about the cost of something, it's gold value, or how much you could sell it for. I was speaking of value in how much someone cares for an item, not the cost or price. There are things in the game that I value highly, even though they are not worth a lot of gold. I am sure the same is true of most players.

So you want to make us care about the mini-pigs, and then come up with a collector to trade them in...
Anyone who cares for their pigs would NEVER trade them in at a collector like they were some kind of tool. Before the event the pig at least was a pig. It wasn't worth alot of cash but alot of people still liked it.
Now it's just a crafting material that is needed to get the celestial pig.
Your argument is invalid.

The only remaining question now is if ANet is clueless and intervened in the economy on the request of speculators without realizing the speculators would make millions, or if they're corrupt and intentionally benefitted the speculators.
Sometimes it annoys me that the player-base of GW isn't like the player-base of the trade simulator EVE: Online; had this been EVE there'd have been hell to pay.
Then I realize that the player-base in EVE are wannabe accountants, so perhaps having corruption is the lesser of two evils after all.

Yup. Great message: Hoard more, or you may giving away something that is 50k worth.
Great message.
ONE PIG. Only ONE PIG should have been required. No more than one.

So I had one of my very own mini pigs. I gave away the rest last year.
I would like a mini celestial pig, because I like it and I collect mini pets.
I had a couple of friends who already dedicated their mini pets to HoM and didn't care about them, so gave me theirs.
I'm left with 4 mini pigs, including my own.
I would like to keep my own mini pig, as I think it's cute.
So if I want a celestial pig, I either buy 2 more mini pigs, or buy a celestial pig later.
Gaile is doing some serious backpeddling now. It's not about monetary value? So Anet created the PERFECT situation for people to place a higher monetary value on mini pigs? Has Gaile herself seen some of the ridiculous prices people are now selling and buying mini pigs for? Since tons of pigs were supposedly deleted, and now they're being gotten rid of at 5 in a single pop, they have greatly increased the rarity... thus placing a higher monetary value on them. What other value does that leave us? The people left with mini pigs will mostly be the people who already valued them and were already keeping them because of something other than monetary value. Everybody else is making cash, because they didn't care. Increasing the rarity will not make them suddenly care.
To all of you saying that people only care because they can't make cash on extra piggies now, GTFO. I have 3 extra mini pigs that I could easily sell right now if that's what I cared about. Just because that's what you'd do, or in fact did do, does not mean that's what everybody would or will do.

I will just buy the Celestial when I have money for it. Buying Mini Pigs and Festival Tickets was not in the budget

actually i just got a mini celestial pig cuz sum1 just sold me 4 pigs for 30k then i bought another pig for 10k so i paid 40k overall for the celestial..... and to add to the ppl who are complainin... some ppl have already paid for a celestial pig upfront or for 5 normal pigs (in which the price is around 15-30k), have you thought that maybe the ppl who paid that price for the pigs wud probably be mad and in the same situation you guys are in if the anet teams change the rules again and somehow decreased the value? there wud probably be a whole nother flame topic about how anet keeps changin rules and how a whole bunch of peeps are now 100k less richer...... just sayin

The point is it was a bad idea from the start. Gaile's not a bad girl, she's just talking out of her ass again to do damage control. What a stressful ungratifying job this must be at times. Oh btw Gaile, can you ask the genius at Anet who came up with this idea, to share some of that pot pls, instead of smoking it with the dev team and other peeps at Anet.
How can a team that makes such a beautiful inovative game, approve such an implementation. Probably a bit anti social I guess, like with al geniuses.

Nice kick in the teeth for those nice enough to give their spare pigs away last year..
Should be interesting to see how much the normal pig and celestial ones' will be worth after the festival.

Your argument is invalid.

They were trying to make the piggies have greater value by removing a large chunk of them from circulation. The fact that people that only had one and liked it wouldn't trade it is irrelevant since they were trying to get the people that didn't like it to see it as having value.
Unfortunately, I'd have to say your argument is invalid since it doesn't even make sense.

So people that liked the mini pig had only one, and don't want to trade it in, but those that didn't like it had 5+ sitting around? That makes even less sense.

thanks anet. i had 6 mini pigs last year but they were taking up too much room in my inventory so i gave 5 to people who didnt get any. if i would of known that they would be needed a year later to get a celestial pig, i would of saved them. now i have no money to buy a celestial pig, or enough money to buy 4 regular pigs + mine to trade in for a celestial pig. and these people are overcharging for a last years pig thats worth 1-3k.
way to ruin the festival. would of been better to let everyone get a celestial pig like last year, and have an overabundance of pigs and let everyone be HAPPY. rather then cheaping out nice ppl who gave away pigs last year, and racking up the price of a 1-3k pet.
I would much rather have items that can be won due to chance, or given away to everyone who attends, its fair for everyone.

I agree, this is just the latest in a string of community relations collapses and strange decisions. I wonder what's going on there, they made missteps in the past, but lately it's like decisions are being made with no logic at all.

Value is supply and demand.
Originally the mini pig had a large supply and no demand.
They added a collector, and you have a large supply with a BIG demand.
Prices went up as people started buying.
But will the demand stay the same with the removal of the NPC that collects them?
Youll have a lower supply, but the demand, will it stay increased or drop back to before the collector?
